Weddings in France, style inspiration: part 1

Bonjour all!
Well with Spring upon us and Summer just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about the wedding season ahead. Many couples who choose to get married in France like to incorporate some French styling and flair into their ‘grand jour’ and France has endless possibilities.
I have decided to feature some French wedding themes on the blog over the coming months and the first of these today is…LAVENDER. Over 50% of the world’s lavender is produced in France and Provence in the South is the best known area for lavender as it has the best climate for its growth. In late June and July there are miles and miles of lavender fields to be seen and in August, the lavender is harvested mainly for use in soaps, perfumes and insect repellents.

Lavender is an excellent base for a French-themed wedding, firstly of course for its use within the bridal flowers…its pastel colour and sweet fragrance make it an obvious wedding choice for bouquets and buttonholes. Its form lends itself to being mixed with other flowers and foliage or it can be used as a simple bouquet, just on its own. It looks lovely with cream roses, but equally in rustic poesies with rosemary, other wildflowers and tied with raffia.

Because of its small sprigs, lavender can so easily be added to favours, tied to the wedding napkins, decorating the wedding cake or used as a hair accessory for the bride and bridesmaids. It provides a perfect colour theme for bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s ties. The lavender grains can be used as confetti and it can also be used to flavour and decorate cakes, biscuits, macaroons and drinks.

Lavender really is a perfect wedding flower for its colour, scent and versatility and adds that rustic touch to any French wedding!
