Autumn Weddings in France

Oh my! I cannot remember a more spectacular autumn than this year…the hot sunshine has continued throughout September and into October. Yes, the wooly jumpers have been brought down from the attic, but I’m still wearing my shades in the afternoons!
With such dense forests here in the Dordogne Valley, it's at its tip-top best in autumn. Each day brings the tiniest change in colours as we leave behind summer’s greens and enter the warm tones of orange, copper, gold, yellow, brown and red. A drive beside the majestic Dordogne at this time of year is a joy to behold. It's time to gather chestnuts, walnuts and wild mushrooms and harvest the pumpkins and butternut squash.

So what better time of year to get married and make those heartfelt promises to the one you love? A whimsical woodland wedding amid mother nature’s masterpiece would be a day to remember.. followed by a good ‘ole knees-up in a spacious barn with twinkly lights and lively music. Or perhaps a romantic wedding night in a secluded treehouse? Or a honeymoon in a rustic lakeside cabin with perfect reflections in the water? For a simple approach, combining both love and nature, an autumn wedding is a must!
I’m thinking pumpkin centerpieces, twisted wooden arch with Autumn foliage, leaves scattered down the aisle instead of petals, cones of roasted chestnuts, scrumptious home-made chutneys or oils as favours and a hearty feast. Perhaps even a glass or two of cider?

Here’s an inspiration board to get you in the mood, if you still need convincing…

Now here’s a few photos I’ve taken in the local area during September and October. Now, I don’t profess to be a great photographer and my camera certainly won’t win any prizes but I hope you like them anyhow...
